GAME INFO
Summary
Eternal Skies is a throwback TCG RPG, aimed to take you back to the turn of the century with small screens, offline singleplayer only play, and a really ugly Geocities style website. This is a kind of game that used to be common, where you play through a singleplayer RPG story having card battles in lieu of combat.
You may remember many games in this genre, such as:
- Pokemon Trading Card Game for GBC
- Card Fighters Clash
- Magic the Gathering Shandalar
- Duel Masters
- a veritable buffet of Yugioh games
However, this genre has essentially died out in favor of easier to make, easier to profit from multiplayer online card games.
This was one of my very favorite genres, and Eternal Skies is my attempt to revive the genre. The game is inspired by all the games I mentioned above, as well as Skies of Arcadia, and drawing heavily from Slavic mythology
Story
The game is strongly narrative driven, and is an adventure following a girl named Zyna, who doesn't even like card games. Despite this, she ends up on a far reaching adventure across the world and then some, meeting a wide variety of characters as well as Slavic gods, demons, and spirits.
There is plenty of the story written, but some things are better left as a surprise. However, there will be more information available in the lore and factions sections once I get around to creating those.
Card Game Details
The card game you play is a brand new card game made by yours truly, with a lot of depth and complexity to it.
The game does involve mana management and the ability to play on your opponents turn for starters, alongside infinite board size and infinitely stacking chains. Let's just say it's more similar to Magic in complexity than other card games.
There will be more information posted in the How To Play section, and a full Rulebook posted, once I make those sections and make the Rulebook more than a text file.
Customization
The last thing I want to mention is customization: it is strongly encouraged. There will be a card editor built in, and everything else will be stored in easily edited plaintext or json files.
Feel free to change the cards, the script, the maps, anything you want. If you don't want to dig into the files themselves, the options menu will already present plenty of tools to adjust difficulty and grindiness.
I want to make it so you can play the game however you want, or make something completely different. More information will be available in the Customize section, eventually.
